Robert Napier Sports Day 2017: who is going to win?

David Barnett previews next week's annual Sport Day for year 7, 8 and 9

The Robert Napier house teams have finalised their selections ahead of Tuesday's (27 June) annual Sports Day.

All students across year 7, 8 and 9 were given the opportunity to take part in a maximum of three events plus the final relay race. The response from students was overwhelming; some students said they were "gutted" that they were not able to take part in more events.

The head of the PE department, Mr Walsh said: “I’m looking for students to be the best they can be; to show fairness, respect and be determined. The school has been actively promoting ‘habits of success’ for all students.”

He said the year 9 girls' relay race could be the highlight of the day, saying "there have been many notable performances". However, Mr Walsh remained tight-lipped as to his predictions for which house will take the overall victory.

He said: "It’s too early to predict a winning house since it all comes down to the team who has a solid start for the morning throwing and jumping events. This will be followed by the teams who prepare well for the relay change overs.”

We must remember that Sports Day is still a cog in the bigger machine... it will be crucial in deciding who may win the school’s Rewards Afternoon on July 14.

Full coverage of the day's events will be available from this website late next week. Good luck to all involved!
