The Robert Napier School

Headteacher’s First Assembly

The new Headteacher, Mr Minchin, welcomed the students back from the Easter break and spoke to them about his vision for the students of the School.  He wants all students to be part of a 6 year plan; where every year group surpasses the success of their previous year group.  Mr Minchin outlined in his assembly four essential components that he expects of the students in order to achieve this success:

  • Focused effort in all areas of school life

  • Deliberate practice – taking on feedback and doing something about it

  • A growth mindset – a ‘can do’ and an ‘I will’ attitude

  • Positive learning environment – focused, disciplined, calm, tidy and well maintained environment.

Mr Minchin highlighted the details of some immediate changes to the ‘behaviour for learning policy’ which will be shared with students over the coming days.  He advised students to expect a Headteacher with high expectations of all students in all areas of the School.

The assembly finished with Mr Minchin focusing on the immediate task at hand in the coming months - exams! Specifically for the more senior students there is still time to make an impact and improve grades in every subject.  Details of further support outside of school hours will be available to students in the next few days.
