The Robert Napier School library was in use all day on World Book Day this March and showed that the event doesn’t have to be all about dressing up.

Events during the run up to the day included author visits, graphic novelists and competitions as well as the ongoing work of The Book Thieves and the Reading Champions and Stars in promoting reading.

Every single Year 7 spent time in the library completing tasks and quizzes and, most importantly, enjoying reading. The keenest readers won signed books by the authors Justin Somper, Beverley Birch and Natasha Farrant.

The legacy of the day’s events saw dozens of new visitors to the lunchtime reading club The Book Thieves and they have been back every week as new members to an already established society.

RNS has already strengthened its partnership with Medway Libraries this year as librarian Richard Pemberton who is a long time friend of the school through his support of Book Thieves and reading champions, has helped to ensure that every single Year 7 and 8 student at the school is a member of all Medway libraries.
