The Robert Napier School

It's a Bravo from Cullum for Andy McNab

Author visits are a common occurence at Robert Napier. Cullum Webber (Year 10) gives his account of how attending The Book Thieves inspired him to look for an opportunity to meet his favourite author.

On November the 6th I had the privilege of meeting Andy McNab at Chatham library. Andy McNab is an ex-SAS author who writes action novels about the  SAS or Intelligence services working to stop, avoid or simply survive against whoever wants them dead. All in all McNab’s books are thrilling, clever and stunningly brilliant page turners and thanks to the school I got to meet and even talk to the brilliant mind behind these books and stories. He was just as entertaining and amusing in person as his books were to read.

I found out about this through our school’s brilliant "Book Thieves" club on in M4 on Tuesday lunchtimes run by Mr Still where we sit, talk and read about whatever fantastical world we currently engrossed in. Occasionally Richard from Gillingham Library comes in with a box full of books for us to borrow and recommends us any books we may like. Over time he’s got to know the frequent members of book thieves and he talks to us about his personal stories surrounding his experience of reading books. Richard was one of the main members organising the author visit and that’s how I found out. At the end of the visit I got to talk to Andy McNab and get the books I bought signed. The experience was incredible and I hope you will be able to get involved with book thieves and maybe you will meet one of your favourite authors too.
